The Andy's Timeline
1917 — Founded

~1927 — Move to Hudson Avenue
About a decade after opening, the business shifted focus entirely to confections and remodeled/moved to the Hudson Avenue location that later became the factory and retail storefront.
1930s–1940s — Local presence
Andy’s becomes known in Rochester neighborhoods for candies, chocolates, and a friendly storefront experience. Listings in city directories confirm the Sykut name and Hudson Ave address in the 1930s.
1950s–1970s — Growth & family continuity
As the region grows, Andy’s keeps building its reputation for sponge candy and handcrafted clusters. Local customers remember the storefront as part of life’s milestones.
1990s — Manufacturer & retailer
By the 1990s Andy’s is operating both as a factory on Hudson Avenue and a retail brand with multiple area locations. Profiles in the Rochester Business Journal document the long family ownership.
2015 — Local features & renewed interest
Democrat & Chronicle and other local outlets publish features that revisit Andy’s history, signature items, and the family story.
2017 — Centennial

A Rochester Tradition — Four Generations of Candy Makers
Andy’s Candies began in 1917 when Andrew ‘Andy’ Sykut opened a small neighborhood tobacco-and-candy shop in Rochester. Over the last century, our little shop grew into a family-run chocolatier and neighborhood mainstay. We still make many of the same recipes today — handcrafted, small batch, and made with the same care Andy used on day one.
